'Keep Calm and CRANBERRY On' printable

What better way to celebrate Halloween than spend the morning hanging your decorations for the next holiday??

You might remember that my 'Keep Calm and SCARY On' printable was the brainchild of my rhyme-loving husband. When I told him I was making a Thanksgiving 'Keep Calm' sign, he lit right up with another rhyming idea. How about, 'Keep Calm and CRANBERRY On?' he quipped. And so it was. :)

The pictures in the three frames above my kitchen table get switched out for every holiday (and occasion). All three Thanksgiving 'Keep Calm' versions go quite nicely together!

Thanksgiving Version of 'Keep Calm and Carry On' Printable

I get so excited about decorating for the holidays that before they even arrive I'm already itching to take down what's current and decorate for the next one. Today I couldn't stop myself. Halloween's not here yet but I needed a little Thanksgiving cheer!  So I gathered some leaves from my gutter, lashed them to my Dollar-Store hurricane (Pottery Barn-style!), and created a Thanksgiving version of the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' poster!

Beaded Spider Tutorial

In case my missed my guest-post (and first tutorial!) over at Tatertots and Jello last week, here it is!

Walking through a store the other day, I spied some decorative spiders ($5 apiece!) that had plastic bodies and colorful beaded legs. I really liked them but I have two rules about holiday decor: it has to be homemade and it has to be cheap. (Both components are necessary for the crafting high! And that's what it's all about, right? :) ) Besides, I thought an all-bead spider in black would be much cuter anyway and it was!

You'll need some 20-gauge wire, black seed beads (for the eyes and legs), and two sizes of larger black beads (for the head and body).

For each spider, cut five lengths of wire, about six inches long apiece. This gives you plenty of extra room to work with. String your beads onto the first wire in this order: two seed beads, smaller black bead, larger black bead.

Take the end with the seed beads and feed it back through the large beads. You'll now have two wires coming out the bottom of the largest bead.

Pull the beads taut and clip the wires with just enough room to twist the ends into a loop with your needle-nosed pliers.

For the legs, wrap the remaining four wires once around the wire between the head and body beads.

I used about 25 seed beads for each of the front four legs and about 35 for each of the back four. After stringing the beads on each leg, clip the wire close and curl it into a loop to secure the beads (and to make a cute little spider-foot!)

After all eight legs are beaded, bend them into shape and your little bead spider is complete!

And these creepy-crawlies are so versatile! Scatter them about on your mantel,

or contain them in a spooky birdcage spider-cage ($1 at Michaels!).

You could attach some to magnets, and spookify your refridgerator,

or attach them to some elastic and decorate your daughter's head!

Hooray for spiders! (The kind that aren't real, of course.) :)

Goodwill Kid's Chair Make-Over

A few months ago I took the baby out for a run (um... a brisk walk if we're being honest) in her jogger and spied two adorable vintage wooden children's chairs at a garage sale for $3.00 apiece. I told myself I could come back and get them after my "run". When I came back a half hour later they were gone. I wanted to kick myself until my brains turned black and blue. I've never stopped regretting it.

Thank the HEAVENS I made it up to myself by finding this little treasure at the local Goodwill.

And it was marked down from its original price!

Of course, it was not without its "issues". It was cracking and peeling in a few places.

I spray-painted my new best friend with Rustoleum's Heirloom White. Gosh I love that color.

And it became gorgeous!

But it still had its damage. And the second the chair came home Annalise believed it was a special jungle gym made just for her, so I didn't want her to scrape herself on it. I didn't know what to do other than cover it up!

So I bought some foam. (Funny story: I bought the foam at Joann's. The checker went to charge me. I noticed she hadn't taken the coupon I had laid on the counter. "Oh, did I get my discount?" I asked her. "Whoopsie," she said, looking at the receipt she was about to hand me. "I was supposed to take 50% off. Instead I just charged you $.50. My mistake. Here you go!" YIPPEE!) I took the chair apart and traced the seat onto the foam.

I used my electric knife to cut a smooth edge along the lines.

Then I glued them together. Perfect fit!

Using my staple gun, I covered it with this gorgeous fabric from Joann's. I love the sweet vintage-y look of it.

I also love that it's pink and so feminine but not so bold as to be distracting in pictures.

All done!!

Bear in mind that I had no idea what I was doing and made it up as I went along. But the important thing is: the little lady approves. :)

Paper Punch Earrings

When I saw these cute candy corn earrings designed by Infarrantly Creative, I was immediately in love! She cut up paint samples, glued them together, snipped them into candy corn shapes, filed their edges down, and used her drill to make holes in them. All that was WAY too much work for me, but it did inspire me to make an easier version- paper punch earrings!

I don't know about you, but I have about a thousand punches lying around my house not earning their keep at all. Until today! I gathered some fall-themed paper punches and double-sided cardstock.

I punched out some pumpkins and leaves and squirted Aleene's Paper Glaze over them.

See how it's all dimensional? It basically turns the punch-out into a thick shiny little plastic chip.

Once they dried, I took my Fiskars tiny-hole puncher and punched holes through the tops.

I attached them to jump-rings and French hooks. Ta-da! Super-simple earrings, just right for autumn!

PS- It is extemely difficult to take a focused picture of one's own earlobe. Additionally, can someone explain to me why I chose to take said earlobe-picture in the morning before I had any makeup on? Or even brushed my hair? Oy.

Witch-Hat Cookies

I first saw these adorable witchy-hat cookies on Betty Crocker's website a few years ago. This "recipe" is exactly suited for someone with my amount of cooking prowess- plop a kiss on a cookie and you're DONE! Haha. :)

I'm a Cub Scout leader and one of our little Webelos has been sick for a month. This is my go-to treat during the month of October, so hopefully these tasty little hats will let our dear Webelo know we want him back soon!
